Listen to the news

We wouldn't blame Federal Agricultural Mortgage Corporation (NYSE:AGM) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Mitchell Johnson, the Independent Director recently netted about US$513k selling shares at an average price of US$205. That sale reduced their total holding by 22% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive VP, Stephen Mullery, for US$1.1m worth of shares, at about US$216 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$209. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.
