Listen to the news

Over the past year, many Diodes Incorporated (NASDAQ:DIOD) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Diodes Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Chairman & CEO, Keh-Shew Lu, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.2m worth of shares at a price of US$73.93 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$46.03). So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

Diodes insiders didn't buy any shares over the last year. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Diodes Insiders Are Selling The Stock

The last quarter saw substantial insider selling of Diodes shares. In total, insiders sold US$262k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. In light of this it's hard to argue that all the insiders think that the shares are a bargain.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Diodes insiders own 1.8% of the company, worth about US$38m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
